While the Mayo score is used in clinical trials, it is not commonly calculated in routine clinical practice. Mayo scores are abstracted by OM1 when they do appear in the clinical notes.

OM1 also calculates both a Partial Mayo and Modified Mayo score when the requisite components appear in the patient’s record:

Modified Mayo:

  1. An Endoscopic score (mucosal appearance on endoscopy, documented Mayo Endoscopic Score (MES), or achievement of Endoscopic Remission) appears in the patient’s record
  2. A Blood in Stool and a Stool Frequency record in the three months before, or one month after, the Endoscopic score

Partial Mayo:

  1. Disease Activity record appears in patient’s record
  2. A Blood in Stool and a Stool Frequency record appear in the three months before, or one month after the Disease Activity record

The Modified or Partial Mayo is the sum of each component

OM1’s Mayo calculation is informed by this paper: Rudrapatna, V.A., B.S. Glicksberg, and A.J. Butte, Utility of routinely collected electronic health records data to support effectiveness evaluations in inflammatory bowel disease: a pilot study of tofacitinib. BMJ Health Care Inform, 2021. 28(1)
